Story: Logging native forests

Kauri logs are trucked out of Jacky Webb’s Northland farm in 1996. He cut the kauri, rimu, tōtara and kahikatea growing on his land before an amendment to the Forests Act 1949 came into force to stop unsustainable harvesting of native trees. The amendment resulted in a final logging bonanza as private landowners realised the value of their trees.
