This flax snail is on a branch on the Mokohinau Islands. Snail hatchlings spend an unknown period living in trees and shrubs, then move down on to the forest floor.

I've noticed the colour of the foot for Kauri snails is sometimes black or grey, is this a difference between paryphanta species and powelliiphanta species?
