The Union Steam Ship Company’s Takapuna, built in 1883, provided an express mail and passenger service on the run between Onehunga, New Plymouth, Wellington and Lyttelton until 1924. After withdrawal from the fleet, the Takapunawas dismantled and the hulk sunk in Cook Strait.
