Soil disturbance and rejuvenation

Image
Soil disturbance and rejuvenation

Landslides end the life of the original soil profile, and start two new soils – one on the slope that has lost the original soil, and the other at the foot of the slope. This landslide occurred beside the Mātakitaki River during the Murchison earthquake. A number of subsequent small slips are evident, as is the changed course of the river.
