New Zealand Farm Forestry Association

Neil Barr (in grey jacket, centre), the founding president of the New Zealand Farm Forestry Association, addresses a group of farm foresters in a Northland plantation of Sydney blue gum (Eucalyptus saligna) in 1971. Barr was the driving force behind the association for decades, and remained an enthusiast right up until his death in 1996.

I have found radiata pine from Guadalupe Island Mexico (P. r. var. binata) is more cold and drought tolerant than the species allowing me to plant in areas the the species wont grow. Faster growing than any other pine tried once established not needing irrigation. Planted in the mountains of San Diego County, California at 4,000' elevation on the edge of the desert. Guadalupe Island cypress does very well too with the branches not breaking when it snows.
