In the early days of land settlement, horses were used extensively for transporting people, but had just as important a role in transporting goods to relatively inaccessible places. Where wagons or carts could not travel, the packhorse was the next best option. These packhorses loaded with timber and other stores are ready to set off across a partly developed hill country farm.
