Traditionally a small rural service centre, in the 2000s Woodville titled itself the ‘windfarm capital of New Zealand’ because of the nearby Tararua wind farm. Small towns like Woodville have not remained able to rely on farming to sustain themselves, and instead promote other noteworthy or special features in an effort to gain recognition.
