The stars of Matariki were incorporated into the coat of arms of the Kīngitanga (King movement) along with Christian symbols. Here the coat of arms it is shown on the door of Māhinārangi meeting house, built in the 1920s at Tūrangawaewae marae, Ngāruawāhia. The ornate coat of arms was also used on the masthead of the Kīngitanga newspaper Te Paki-o-Matariki (the fine weather of Matariki), first published in 1892.
