An active exhibition held at Wellington’s City Gallery, Sui Faiga Ae Tumau Fa’avae, gave gallery visitors a chance to see taupou tatau (Pacific tattooing) artists at work. Tuigamala Andy Tauafiafi, Jaco Schmidt and Bryan Visala (Juse 1) used modern equipment while Paul Junior Sulu’ape used an au (comb chisel), tapping pigment into skin. This is Schmidt at work on a design in the gallery.
