Playing pétanque

Seti Mailei (left), his son Andrew and fellow pétanque player Gergio Vakauta are pictured here training in Victoria Park, Auckland, in 2003. Those who grew up in French colonies such as Tahiti not only learned the French language at school, they also picked up continental European games such as pétanque. Tahitians in Auckland are keen players and have represented New Zealand.
