Story: Māori fiction – ngā tuhinga paki

Paula Morris reading from Rangatira

Paula Morris's 2011 novel Rangatira won the fiction category of the New Zealand Post Book Awards in 2012, and the fiction prize of the Ngā Kupu Ora Māori Book Awards the same year. The novel is about Morris's Ngātiwai ancestor Paratene Te Manu and the trip he made to England with 13 other rangatira (chiefs) in 1863. Here, Morris reads an excerpt from the novel at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2012.
