A volunteer doctor bandages the ankle of All Black Lester Harvey during the third test against the British Lions, at Athletic Park in Wellington on 1 July 1950. Harvey's fellow lock, Richard 'Tiny' White looks on. In the amateur era large sporting events such as the Lions tour always had St John first aid volunteers in attendance. Volunteer doctors would also be present in case their services were needed.
