The photograph shows leading members of the Palmerston North Squash Rackets Club, New Zealand's second-oldest public squash club, after the Timaru club. In both 1947 and 1949 Palmerston North player A. M. Johns won the national men's squash championship. In 2013 the Palmerston North club was New Zealand's largest and was known as SquashGym.
