Story: Rhythms of daily life

For long-term unemployed people, getting paid work was difficult, in part because their daily routine had settled around not working. Work schemes often aimed to help them set up new routines. Marina Masame is shown here in 2006, running a programme in West Auckland that prepares unemployed youth for a year-long placement with a local council. She described the participants as ‘a whanau kind of group who work together to change the little things, like coming to class on time’.
