Phar Lap: a chestnut colt

The 1928 Trentham sales catalogue described Phar Lap's distinguished pedigree, and someone scribbled on the page in pencil 'very strong male colt'. Bred by Alick Roberts at Seadown Stud, near Timaru, Phar Lap was sold to Australia as a yearling in 1928 for 160 guineas, and never raced in New Zealand.
