Ivan Mauger celebrates his victory at the Speedway World Championship at Wembley in September 1969. On the dais for finishing second is fellow New Zealander Barry Briggs. Mauger was one of several New Zealand professional sportspeople who began to earn large incomes through international sport from the mid-1950s.
