Repudiation movement

These are members of the repudiation movement, which was based in Hawke's Bay and led by Hēnare Matua. The movement worked together with sympathetic Pākehā to question land sales that it believed had been undertaken fraudulently. Many of the Māori leaders of the repudiation movement later went on to be leaders within the Kotahitanga movement.
