Story: Ngā whakataunga tiriti – Treaty of Waitangi settlement process

Once a treaty settlement is negotiated and agreed between the Crown and claimants, an act of Parliament is generally required to enforce the terms of the settlement. Here members of Ngāi Tahu, including Ruahine Crofts (second from right), arrive at Parliament Buildings, Wellington, in October 1996 to witness the passing of pre-settlement legislation to establish Ngāi Tahu as a legal entity.
