Wellington primary schools tennis championships

Wellington primary schools tennis championships

At a national level, little attention was paid to junior tennis players until the first junior championships were held in 1929. However, young players were able to gain experience at school. These children were finalists at the Wellington primary schools tennis championships in 1932. The first interschool competition in Wellington was held in 1902. Stan Painter, second from right in the bottom right picture, was the national boys' singles champion from 1935 to 1938.
