Story: Royal family

Royal visits: royal progress, Auckland, 1901

When visiting Auckland, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George V and Queen Mary) progressed through celebratory arches, several of which are shown in this collection of images from the 1902 Cyclopedia of New Zealand. The royal couple was on a tour of the British Empire, thanking the dominions for their response to the South African War. The pair travelled on the royal yacht Ophir.

I visited this page because I was looking for some information on the Duke & Duchess visit to New Zealand in 1902 to include in a speech I have to give at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and its history which includes a visit to the Auckland club in 1901 and in 1902 they gave the Auckland the Auckland yacht Club Royal Patronage and from that date it became the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Very helpful information here. Thank you.
