The sharply dissected hill country of the Whanganui region is typical of much North Island topography. After long wet periods, or in heavy rain, there are occasionally slips on the steepest slopes. With appropriate fertiliser and management, the gentler, rolling land will maintain pasture cover and not revert to weeds.
