The Solomon Islands, some of which are shown here, lie at the eastern edge of Near Oceania. The evidence suggests that seafarers had some degree of sophistication and could navigate and steer their craft. It seems these early people knew how to cross from island to island, even where islands were out of sight from each other. It is unlikely that people had got from Asia as far east as the Solomon Islands by accidental drift voyages.
