Hikurangi (1,752 m) is a mountain of immense importance to Ngāti Porou and indeed to all the population of the Waiapu valley. It is seen here from State Highway 35, just south of Ruatōria.

This is a photo of Aorangi Maunga with Hikurangi in the background and this view is taken from Tuparoa Road, east of Ruatoria not State Highway 35 as stated.
