Te Waha o Rerekohu pōhutukawa

Te Waha o Rerekohu – the mouth of Rerekohu – is thought to be the largest pōhutukawa tree in New Zealand. At least 600 years old, it had a branch span of more than 37 metres when measured in 1950.

There is a possibly larger pohutukawa tree on the ridge track of Nga Tapuwae o Toi, the track between Ohope West beach and Burma Road. I estimated the span, by pacing, to be a good 40 metres. Over to you to confirm. Nga mihi.
