Use of oil is dominated by the transport sector. In addition to the oil shown here as used by transport, approximately 80% of the unallocated segment is estimated to also be used for transport. So transport’s total is almost three-quarters of total oil supplied. Given the importance of transport to oil usage, it isn’t surprising to see the very strong increase in New Zealand’s oil supply. Use of motor transport began to climb after the First World War.
