Story: Sex work

MP talks about arrest

Video file

During Parliamentary debate on the Prostitution Reform Bill in February 2001, Labour MP Georgina Beyer talked about being picked up by the police when she was a transgender sex worker in Wellington. Beyer used her own experience to highlight the risks for sex workers when soliciting was illegal. She stressed the need for sex workers to receive protection from the police rather than be subjected to harassment.
