Environmental bequest

Wairarapa resident Montford Trimble, who died in 1940, left a bequest to the Masterton County (now District) Council in his will. The money was to be used to plant trees. A pine plantation was planted and has since been harvested several times. The profits are put towards native and exotic afforestation projects managed by the Montford Trimble Foundation. This image shows Masterton County Council chair John Colquhoun receiving a cheque from a trustee in 1953.
