Wairarapa resident Montford Trimble, who died in 1940, left a bequest to the Masterton County (now District) Council in his will. The money was to be used to plant trees. A pine plantation was planted and has since been harvested several times. The profits are put towards native and exotic afforestation projects managed by the Montford Trimble Foundation.
