Following strong evidence that press coverage of suicides led to copy-cat behaviour, restrictions have been placed on reporting of suicide in New Zealand in the media. Not everyone agrees with this policy. Here, the former race relations conciliator, Gregory Fortuin, presents his view that there should be more open discussion of suicide.
