Marriage between tribes

This whakapapa (genealogy) for the chief Rangitihi and his descendants includes examples of marriage alliances to resolve inter-tribal grievances. Taiwere of Ngāti Whakaue was married to Tāmiuru of Ngāti Pikiao, and their son Pūkaki married Ngāpuia of Tūhourangi, creating much-needed peace among the three tribes.
