Though New Zealand's fertility rate is comparatively low compared to its historical rates, in the early 21st century it has been higher than most other developed countries. This graph show fertility rates in 2014. The rates of most developing countries were below replacement level (which is 2.1 births per woman of child-bearing age). New Zealand's was then just below replacement level, although it has since fallen further, to 1.8 in 2017.
