Samuel Marsden, in his dark clerical gown, meets the people of Rangihoua, Bay of Islands, in 1814. Behind him are the missionaries he would leave to set up a mission station there. The local people include relatives of Ruatara, a chief who had met Marsden on a whaling ship and invited him to this area.
