Story: Women’s labour organisations

Auckland women prepare placards for a 1981 march in support of the Working Women’s Charter. Standing in the foreground is Working Women’s Council (WWC) national convenor Sandi Beattie. With the adoption of the charter’s provisions as policy by the Federation of Labour (the private-sector union umbrella group) and the Labour Party in 1980, the major work of the WWC was done. It ceased functioning in May, 1981.
