During the 1980s, when this poster was produced by the New Zealand AIDS Foundation, AIDS was an increasing cause of death among men, especially gay men. Through the use of protective measures such as condoms, and improved treatments, HIV/AIDS was a much less common cause of male sickness and death in the 21st century.
