In 1999, 2003 and 2021 the Viaduct Basin was home for syndicates competing for the Louis Vuitton yachting trophy and the right to challenge New Zealand for the America’s Cup. Crowds flocked to see the boats off each morning and welcome them back after racing. Restaurants, cafés and apartments ring the basin, which is a hub for the city’s night life.
