Corrugated iron was widely used for huts and farm buildings. Browns Hut, at the northern end of the Heaphy Track, was built to a traditional design, with space for six bunks as well as a chimney. Its age is uncertain, but the state of the iron suggests it was at least 50 years old when this photograph was taken in 1964. A few years later the hut was replaced by a much larger building.
