Contractors stand inside a stator (part of the generator that sits above, and is driven by, the turbines) at the Benmore power station The life of older hydroelectric stations can be extended through rebuilding. Work planned on the stator included cleaning carbon build-up off the walls. Benmore station’s rebuilding began in 2008 and was expected to cost $67 million. The upgrade was expected to increase the station’s output and its reliability.
