Although pinball machines were trumped by the arrival of video games in the 1970s, they never went away, and experienced a revival in the 1990s. Midnight Espresso, a well-known café in Wellington’s Cuba Street, had a pinball machine from 1989. The first machine there was 'Skyrocket' and players got five balls for 20 cents. In 1989 the takings from the pinball machine paid for the café's rent each week.
