In 1981 the National Bank used Parnell Village as a backdrop for an advertisement promoting the use of its Visa credit card. In the 1960s Parnell Road had a series of run-down old houses. In the early 1970s the entrepreneur Les Harvey bought the dwellings and converted them into shops, boutiques and eateries. The upmarket shopping precinct proved a huge success and the National Bank wanted to benefit from this by filming its advert there. In turn, the wider public got to see on their television screens a very good example of the commercial adaptive re-use of historic buildings.
