Opening of the Fringe Festival, 2013

The performing and literary arts were an important aspect of Wellington's creative culture in the 2000s. Here a street performer entertains spectators in Civic Square at the opening of the 2013 Fringe Festival. The event is held every year in late February and early March and is open to any performer. It has become a significant occasion for experimental work, especially theatre, and provides an opportunity for developing artists to perform before audiences.
