The first meeting of the Māori Education Foundation was held in the Māori Affairs Committee room, Parliament Buildings, on 19 December 1961. Here are: (left, back) Secretary for Maori Affairs Jack Hunn; the nominee of Māori members of Parliament, Sir Eruera Tirikātene; the nominee of the Māori Women's Welfare League, Mira Szászy; Director of Education Arnold Campbell; the secretary of the board, J. S. Joliff; the treasurer, A. E. Webb; the officer for Māori education, Education Department, R. L. Bradly; and, in front, Minister of Māori Affairs Ralph Hanan; the chair, Douglas Ball; and Minister of Education William Tennent.
