From the late 1960s some protest marchers adopted the masks, costumes and antics of Mardi Gras parades and advanced their causes through street theatre. It was an effective way to attract public and (especially) media attention. This troupe leads an anti-Springbok-tour street march in May 1981. The central figure is a caricature of Prime Minister Robert Muldoon.
