Floodway, Lake Matahina

With high rainfall in the back country and rising river levels in July 2004, the waters of Lake Matahina were released. The aim was to prevent the lake overtopping the Matahina dam. An increased volume of water poured into the Rangitāiki River through a floodway alongside the dam.
