New Zealand atlas of deprivation

This map was created from the NZDep2013 index of socioeconomic deprivation published by the Department of Public Health at Otago University in 2014. Using results from the 2013 census, it shows areas of deprivation on a five-point scale with the most deprived areas in the darkest red. The index used to construct the atlas was based on nine variables, which collectively provided a good indication of the lack of disposable income, poor living environment and inferior life chances for families in the most deprived areas.
