Two veteran prospectors, Frederick Cassin and Charles Jacobsen, hold a Geiger counter up to a sample of uranium ore. The rock was from the original area of discovery near Batty Creek in the Lower Buller Gorge. ‘I believe that it is possible we have discovered the second most concentrated uranium deposit in the world,’ Cassin commented to the Dominion reporter. It was not quite true, but everyone was happy to believe him.
