Military medals are commonly worn on Anzac Day (25 April), which commemorates the day New Zealand and Australian forces landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey in 1915 during the First World War.
Holly Moore (12) and her grandfather, Pat Moore, are wearing First and Second World War medals during Anzac Day commemorations in Queenstown in 2010. Holly is wearing her great-grandfather’s First World War medals: the 1914–1915 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. Following protocol for descendants, she is wearing them on the right. Pat Moore is wearing his Second World War medals on his left breast: the 1939–1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939–1945.
