Tīvaevae are appliquéd and patchworked quilts made by Cook Islands women, who brought this handcraft to New Zealand. The quilts are usually brightly coloured, and flowers are a common motif. Tīvaevae are given as gifts on important occasions such as weddings. This tīvaevae was made by Mere Tapaeru Tereora in 1980.
