This group is walking on to Rāhui marae at Tikitiki, on the East Coast, for the tangihanga of renowned carver Pine Taiapa in 1972. The women, a number of whom are wearing pare kawakawa (kawakawa leaves) walk at the head of the group, with men behind them. The call of welcome from the kaikaranga of the tangata whenua (hosts) will be heard, and the manuhiri's kaikaranga will respond.
