Te Hīri o Tāwhiao, 1894

He mea hīri tēnei reta o te tau 1894 mai i a Kīngi Tāwhiao ki Tā Hōri Kerei ki te harare, kei runga ko te hīri o te Kīngi Māori ake, he mea tuku iho i tōna matua i a Pōtatau.  He tohu nui whakaharahara te hīri nei ki Te Kīngitanga.  Nō te tahuri a tētehi ō āna kaiwhai, a Kerei Kaihau o Waiuku, ki te whakamahi, ka taka te riri a Tāwhiao, ka tuhia e ia ētehi reta mai i Maungākawa ki a Kaihau e mea ana mā Kaihau e ‘whakahoki tika mai te hīri a Pōtatau.’ (Timaru Herald, 26 Hūne 1894, wh. 3).
