Boulder Stream in South Westland is normally just a trickle. But the water volume increases enormously after heavy rain (which occurs frequently in the region), and it carries a huge bed-load into the nearby Moeraki River. Heavy sediment is typically carried into rivers and then out to sea in New Zealand’s high-rainfall areas.
