The Capital E National Theatre for Children's production Magnolia Street was acclaimed nationally and internationally, particularly for its no-frills but innovative multimedia set design. Watch the trailer to see how audiovisual designer Johann Nortje and lighting designer Nathan McKendry created a street of houses, then sent the actors back through time to explore its history. A small video camera, visible to the audience at the side of the stage, records a model of the set, and the image is projected in real time. The artifice is evident, but nonetheless effective theatrically. Like many recent set design projects, this was a collaborative effort between the principal figures behind the production.
